Introducing Meggie Duile

Today’s guest has been really hard to pin down. I would like to extend a warm welcome to “Aunt” Meggie Duile. She is the aunt to Storm, Ember, Maryna and Tara Duile the stars of the Elemental Desires Series. Aunt Meggie is a lovely cultured lady who has a bit of a concentration problem. She’s just a little scatterbrained at times so please remember to make those allowances as this is transcribed from our actual conversation.

DC: Welcome Miss Duile

MD: What? Oh yes, hello dear. Please call me Aunt Meggie. My dear I have lived for millennia. When I was born my parents gave me a name but I’ve been known by so many names it’s hard to keep up so I go by Meggie.

DC: So please tell us a little bit about yourself. It must be fascinating to have seen so many times come and go.

MD: It’s been an experience I can tell you that much. I’ve watched the world grasp the gods and goddesses of each civilization. I’ve watched as these same civilizations have grown and changed and so many have forgotten their heritage. It’s really quite sad.

DC: So Aunt Meggie maybe you can give us a little background into the lives of the girls?

MD: I- uh…Oh…what was the question dear? Oh yes! My girls. Well you know they’re very powerful witches. They each control an element. Storm is air and weather. Ember is Fire, Maryna, water and Dear Tara is the earth element. Such dear sweet girls. But oh! My, Ember can be a fiery witch at times.

DC: Wait! Aunt Meggie we’re going to focus on Storm for the time being. Ember’s story isn’t quite finished yet. When the time comes for her story I hope you’ll come back and chat again.

MD: Of course! So sorry dear. Well what can I tell you about Storm? She’s such a doll, and she was such a beautiful baby. Of course she hasn’t been a baby in close to 200 years give or take a century.

DC: Wow! I never realized she was so…(Aunt Meggie raises her hand)

MD: Never ever comment on a witch’s age. And most especially never use the O word!

DC: Sorry. Thanks for the head’s up.

MD: You’re quite welcome. Anyway my Storm. Such an adventurous little girl, always stirring up some kind of trouble. She loved to make it rain. Sometimes a little too much I’m afraid. I remember one time in…oh somewhere in the late eighteen hundreds, there was a lack of rain. Her little friend Don (she pronounced this Doon) called her to run and play and well Storm forgot all about that rain and when we finally realized what had happened a little place known as Jonestown in Pennsylvania had flooded terribly. Storm learned then and there that her power wasn’t something to just play around with, that people on earth depended on her to pay attention and be watchful.

DC: What a horrible way to learn a lesson.

MD: Indeed. But Storm is so wonderful she’s very attentive.

DC: What about this contest? I understand that you sanctioned it.

MD: Yes, I did. And I won’t tell you any more about the subject. Suffice it to say that there is a reason for all things to happen and there is a very strong reason for this to happen. I can tell you that it’s particularly important for them to fall in love with a mortal. Each generation of Elemental has.

DC: And you won’t tell us a little more about this?

MD: Well see my dear if an Elemental were to marry and bear children to another witch, O so hate the term warlock. If they were to marry and produce children the child would be far too powerful. We’ve seen what happens when one being has so much power and the destruction that it can wreak.

DC: I’m sorry I’m confused. If these Elementals have to marry a mortal won’t that dilute the amount of power the next generation of Elementals has?

MD: Oh dear. You really know nothing about us, do you?

DC: Well only so much.

MD: An Elemental never has an Elemental parent. That too could prove to be a problematic situation. So each time it’s the end of the Elementals reign, a child is born with a specific birthmark symbolizing their place. They then are taken to our ancestral home and raised by the departing Elemental. They are trained how to use their powers and then when they come of age the previous generation transfers the powers and they live out the rest of their lives as ordinary witches. See how simple that is?

DC: Yes…ahem…I understand from talking to Storm that each Elemental is raised being taught a specific heritage? Like Storm is Celtic?

MD: Yes we want the child to know their heritage. Whatever heritage the mortal parent is from, that is what the Elemental is raised learning.

DC: But wait a minute…Storm is Celtic, and Maryna is Greek?

MD: Oh dear! I’m afraid I’ve said too much. We’ll just keep this between ourselves won’t we?

DC: I’m afraid I don’t quite understand.

MD: You will, in time my dear. Oh! Speaking of time, I really must be off! I’m supposed to…now what was it I was supposed to do? Great ganders! I can never remember. (Meggie reached into a colorful carpetbag and retrieved a list.) Oh yes! I must check in with the girls and then have tea with Malkin. Good-bye!

Before I could say goodbye Meggie had vanished into a puff of purple smoke. She left me with a few baffling questions. How is it that each sister was raised with a specific heritage, one that their mortal parents were born of but each of the girls have different heritages?
I’m hoping that when she comes back to discuss Maryna I can investigate this a little deeper.

Thank you for taking time to stop by and read Meggie’s interview. Storm’s book is coming ever closer and I am so looking forward to her story being told!

I’ve got to go and try to hunt down another guest or two!

Until next time, huggles and HAPPY READING!
Donica
