What sad news to wake up to. I have to admit I’m still in shock. Steve Irwin is gone. I mean I figured he’d have a shorter than normal life span but I was sure it would be that he ended his life being dinner for one of his beloved crocs. I know he was doing what he loved, but to be killed by a stingray? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060904/ap_on_en_tv/obit_irwin http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060904/ap_on_en_tv/obit_irwin
My Dh teased me because I wouldn’t pet one, too chicken too. Guess I was right huh?
I know that he annoyed the crap out of some people. My father HATED him, (never figured out why) and even sometimes he annoyed me. “Don’t try this at home” he’d say before sticking his hand into a poisonous snake hole.
But I’m a fan of the croc hunter. I even bought the cornball movie when it was first released. My DH STILL shakes his head over the waste of money (But he’s like that with my Rocky Horror Picture Show…)
My DD had a crush on him when she was younger she was going to write him a letter, but she never got it finished. Now it’s too late. She would find small animal (little turtles, baby rabbits) and she would hold them (study them) if they (the baby bunnies) were old enough that they didn’t need their moms. She’s found injured baby bunnies (thanks to our hunting dogs) and she’s tried to nurse them back to health. With the turtles after she’d play with them she’d always find the spot she discovered them in so they could return home, just like the crocodile hunter said to do.
I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a bit teary eyed. I feel so bad for his poor wife Terri and the children Bindi and Bob. But I’m also shedding a few tears for the loss as a whole. His work in conservation was so great. (I’m not what my dad calls a tree hugger, not completely I believe in hunting, fishing, etc) but I do believe we need to conserve our wildlife and Having the Croc Hunter went a long way to getting the message out.
Well I’m going to go now, to misty eyed to see the key board…
Huggles,
Donica
