to pick about is absolutely ridiculous. While I try to keep this blog a snipe free commentary zone I have read an article that has made me want to snipe.
Brit's Kick Cartoon Butts...I thought this was a joke at first. But I've read it and it's not so funny. They want to have all the Tom and Jerry cartoons defaced because of the smoking cat? Excuse me? Flintstones, Scooby Doo, even Popeye are on the list as offensive! What?
Seems that people have their knickers in a twist because of a few scenes of smoking. It glamorizes smoking for their kids. Now I'm a smoker and I have to agree this is a terrible habit that no one should pick up. But let's get real for a minute, shall we?
There is an entire generation of children who grew up on these animated gems and we didnt start smoking because Tom had a smoke. We also didn't run around bashing in heads or running dogs over with push mowers. And I for one didn't eat my spinach because Popeye made it looked good!
If you want to find things to bitch about then go for it. Turn on your prime time television. There is nothing suitable for family viewing. There is someone being raped, murdered, beaten, humiliated, degredated, alternative lifestyles being touted as good or evil. Reality television sure could use a make over. There are any number of things that are offensive and should be abolished or changed. Some people are offended by God and His word. Some are offended by Evolutionists theory, some are offended by race.
"Be careful," a small voice is whispering in my head. "Don't want to offend anyone."
Well yes, I should be worried over it and I should apologize for being offensive. But if there is one thing I've learned over the years, it's that there will always be at least one person out there offended just by my walking into a room.
I'm not saying that people should stop taking a stand for things they believe. That would be completely wrong! You should stand up for something and stand firm! But a cartoon? *Shakes head* it's just beyond me...

Wow, banning certain Tom and Jerry cartoons for smoking? What's next, the Bugs Bunny cartoons when he cross-dresses as the girly bunny? Are they going to ban the Smurfs for only being half-dressed? For only having one female amongst the 100 males? LOL
This is really ridiculous, especially with the offensive (to me) cartoons they have on nowadays. The ones that disrespect the parents (Rugrats) or ones that show kids calling each other idiots, telling them to shut up and things are stupid (Rugrats, again, and Ed, Edd, & Eddy), or being mean to animals (Courage the Cowardly Dog).
If you want to get down to it, I think a smoking Tom is the least of your worries as far as quality entertainment in cartoons.
So silly.
One more thing. Elmer Fudd shoots his gun many times trying to kill Bugs Bunny. God forbid the Brits crack down on the Looney Tunes.
