Justice Bernard: Heads the DEA unit. He’s handsome, witty, sexy as sin and totally dependable. He can be callous and hard assed with the world, but when he’s with his Callye, he’s nothing but a loveable teddy bear. Like any leader, he ferociously protects his family. He’s six feet tall, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, slender muscular build, a killer smile but he can also get this intense look in his eyes and set to his jaw that makes him forbidding.
I had a chance to talk to Justice about his job and his family. He was able to give me a few minutes of his precious time.
DC: “Hello Agent Bernard. How are you?”
JB: “Busy as hell.”
DC (nods): “I can understand that. This war on drugs is never ending isn’t it?”
JB: “Yeah and it’s a real pain in the ass some times.”
DC: “If it’s not asking you to break any rules can you let us know a bit about the current case your working on?”
JB: “Right now we’re trying to shut down a major importation ring.”
DC: “I have heard rumors that you’re looking at Mr. Ramiro Gonzales.”
JB: (At this point Justice looks at me dead in the eye) “I don’t know where you’re getting your information from but my advice is that you avoid this subject. You’re stepping into some dangerous waters.”
DC: “Warning noted. I’ve heard that a romance may be blooming in the horizon for you.”
JB: (A smile lights his face and his features soften) “I have to admit, I’ve fallen in love.”
DC: “Tell us a little about her.”
JB: (Shakes his head no) “In my line of work its best to keep certain things under wraps. It’s for the protection of our loved ones. You understand.”
DC: (Nods) “But from the look on your face your very much in love and quite happy.”
JB: “Happier than I’ve been in my life.”
Before I can ask any further questions his cell phone rings. He leaps from the seat.
“Have to cut this short.” He runs out the door without a backward glance.
Callye Anne Simone: She’s a soft-spoken woman absolutely in love with Justice Bernard. Everyone but Justice views her as the baby sister they need to watch over. Callye may come across as the typical damsel in distress, but she can hold her own and isn’t as fragile as the rest of the family thinks. She a small woman, only five feet two. Her sunshine blond hair falls to her shoulders and her blue eyes are bright and sparkling. She has a soft voice, a gentle smile that is readily given.
I was able to meet Callye and talk to this sweet lady for a few minutes.
DC: Welcome Callye and thank you so much for joining me. So do I call you Callye, Cas or Ms. Simone.
CS: “I prefer Callye, Justice is the only one who calls me Cas.”
DC: “I see. So, tell me a little about your life.”
CS: “What would you like to know?”
DC: “What do you do for a living?”
CS: “I’m a graphics art designer for a small advertising business. I have created several ad campaigns and I love getting to do my own layouts. Creating something out of nothing is more fun than work.”
DC: “How did you and Justice meet?”
CS: (smile lights her face): “My sister’s dog introduced us.”
DC: “Really?”
CS: (laughs) “Yes, he broke loose from his leash and took off across the park and launched himself right into Justice’s lap. He drove Justice crazy, licking, slobbering and squirming all over him.”
DC: (laughs as well) “That must have been some sight.”
CS: “It really was.”
DC: “So what’s it like to have a relationship with a DEA agent?”
CS: (releases a heavy sigh) “It can be absolutely terrifying. You never know what’s going to happen. There is always a chance that he may get hurt…or worse. Sometimes, when he’s gone and I’m alone the fear of him never coming back eats at me.”
DC: “So, have you doubted your decision?”
CS: (Her head jerks sharply) “Not for one single second. I love him and I would be lost without him.”
DC: “Have you two discussed his leaving the agency?”
CS: “Never. Justice is DEA. His job is important. I’d sooner ask him to give up a limb then ask him to leave the agency. I’m proud of him and all he’s accomplished. He’s got the best team ever assembled and I trust each of them.”
DC: “I know that being with any one in law enforcement can be dangerous. Are you ever afraid for yourself?”
CS: (She inhales a deep breath and becomes silent.)
DC: “I’m sorry.”
CS: “I’m not afraid. Justice is always there looking out for me. I’m safer with him than anywhere else. Between him and the rest of our family I’ve not got a thing in the world to worry about.”
DC: “Are there wedding bells in your future?”
CS: “If he ever actually proposes, definitely.”
DC: “Then he hasn’t yet?”
CS: “No. But, I won’t rush him. He’ll come to it in his own time.”
DC: “He’s a good looking man. Ever worry some one may steal him away?”
CS: (chuckles) “Never. He’s mine I know that. Besides, I’d like to see someone try.” (She gives a wink.)
DC: “Well thank you for your time Callye. It’s been so great talking with you. And when the time comes I hope you’ll send me an invite to the wedding.”
CS: (stands and offers me a hug.) “Count on it Donica. Thank you.”
Shortly after this interview was done, Callye was abducted and held captive for three days. She was severely injured and has been in critical condition for the last several weeks. There have been no visitors allowed. Her family has been left to deal with their nightmare in peace. We hope that there will be good news to follow.
