I'm voicing my opinions on the two separate issues of gun control and illegal aliens. What follows are my political opinions and you have the choice of reading or disregarding. This is your decision.
On gun control:
I have long been a supporter of the public's right to bear arms. I've watched issues that have been put on ballots and the politicians and their stance on my rights to bear arms.
Recently there was a vote by congress to impose tighter restrictions on the American citizen's rights to purchasing guns. This bill was imposed for the protection of the many in wake of the recent V.Tech murders. I have to toss in my vote:
YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!! There was no way this mentally unstable individual should’ve been allowed to purchase these weapons. What happened to the thorough background checks that were supposed to be run? Who dropped the ball and allowed this tragedy to occur?
I also agree with the NRA's stance and the concessions made to the rights of the average law abiding citizen.
The one thing that stood out glaringly is the fact that there was one dissenting vote. That by Ron Paul (R-Texas) He voted against due the fact that he believed this was an unconstitutional act against the right of the citizen to bear arms.
I repeat I am firmly against gun control. But to vote AGAINST this particular bill? Do you want to know that any of millions of mentally disturbed, the domestically abusive, the ex-cons, and etc. be allowed to have a weapon that they can brandish at any point? As long as the bill is signed with the concessions that the NRA pressed for, there is no reason to have voted against this.
I have always thought Texas was an amazing place. The people of Texas that I have known have been warm generous, caring people and it is honor for me to have the priveledge of knowing them. I’m not slamming Texans in particular.
Texas has many positive aspects. One of which I deeply admire: The death penalty. I personally support the death penalty, I believe EVERY state should have and actually enforce the death penalty. And the fact that Texas has it and actually USES it is a fabulous thing as far as I’m concerned.
That having been said, I'd be ashamed to have some one who voted as Mr. Paul did in this case representing me. He's got dreams of being president? Let me think…it took all of a nanosecond; I wouldn’t cast my vote in his direction. The phrase one bad apple? Well one bad vote is the case here.
Illegal Aliens
I’ve also got an issue with the illegal alien debate. I firmly DISAGREE with the amnesty proposition.
Let me say this: if you are in this country legally, you are welcomed most heartily by me. You have gone through all the stages of the hard work to become a citizen. You have pledged an allegiance to this great country and I am glad you are here.
Those who are here because you've been abused, tortured and are here seeking refuge I hope that you will find a safe haven and that you will be comforted and protected. No one should be abused in the manner that so many people are.
For those of you who are illegal and have the audacity to claim you have a right to social security, that you demand amnesty, that you should be granted all the benefits that are given to any other citizen: PLEASE GO HOME! You do not have those rights, you do not deserve those rights and you are NOT welcome here. If you want the rights of an American citizen go through the legal channels. Once you are a legal citizen you will be welcomed with open arms.
Your illegal actions are an insult not only to me but to everyone who was born in this country. Those people who work their butt off every single day to put money into an already weak system, a system in which the elderly Americans who have long paid into and are NOT receiving full benefit of, you are also insulting the millions who have gone through all the legal channels to become citizens.
To the President of this great country and all the representatives who are currently trying to pass legislation to grant amnesty to these illegal aliens: You don’t deserve the offices, the trust, the citizens of our country placed in you. The American public voted to install you because we were sure that you would do what was best for our country. You have slapped us all in the face.
I was a huge GWB supporter. When debates among friends occurred I voiced my support of Mr. Bush. I’m terribly sorry for this. He has proven that he doesn’t have our best interest at heart and I’m thrilled that he is not eligible for another run at the White House. He’s done enough damage. It’s time to find someone who is truly of the people, and for the people. It will take the new President years to try and undo the damage done.
So please all of you who have been entrusted with your representation of your people do NOT allow this travesty to occur.
If you, like me, are opposed to this injustice, go to http://www.grassfire.org/ and let your voice be heard. Let's make sure that the right thing is done. Let your representatives know that you won’t tolerate this any longer. The louder our voices by our legal right to demand justice, the more we will be heard. Sign petitions and make phone calls today.
Am I too political? Well so be it. I feel the need to voice my opinions on these issues. I’ve been carefully choosing my words and the things I post about because I don’t want to offend anyone. But in so doing I have remained silent and I will not be silent any longer.
Let your voice be heard America.
May you be healthy, happy, and may God watch over you all.
