DC: Hello Edgar, welcome.
ER: Thank you Donica, so nice to be here.
DC: So what is like to be spending so much time with Storm? I bet you have your hands…err feet full.
ER: A Stóirín she’s such a wonder. Not really a handful but more like, well a challenge that keeps me on my toes.
DC: A Stóirín? It sounds like a beautiful word but I’m not familiar with it.
ER: It’s a celtic word. It means my little darling. I’ve watched her grow up and now that she’s coming into her own I’m pleased to be part of it. Seeing it come to the proper conclusion.
DC: Meggie hinted that there is a reason hidden in this contest. Do you know what she meant?
ER: I can only say that all things happen for a reason.
DC: It sounds as if there is more than meets the eye here.
ER: That there is. But I will say no more. Storm must discover it in her own time.
DC: Well then lets find out a little more about you. It’s more than a little odd to meet a raven that can speak. Were you always a raven?
ER: What an absurd question! What did you think I was, a penguin?
DC: I’m sorry for offending you. In television shows and movies when an animal can talk its due to a spell or a curse.
ER: What of your Mr. Ed? He could speak.
DC: *chokes and sputters* Actually he was voiced by a human being.
ER: Irrelevant. The fact is I am an Aradian raven. I was hatched as such I live as such and I shall die as such.
DC: (at this point in our conversation I was more than a little flustered. Without intent I had offended Edgar and put our interview in a holding pattern.) Do you perform magic as well?
ER: Oh yes. I have the power to transport at will, and before you ask I do not mean by power of flight. I can make objects appear and disappear whenever I choose.
DC: What hobbies do you enjoy?
ER: I love to read. For mortal authors I enjoy Edgar Allen Poe, William Shakespeare, Mark Twain, Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey. I’ve even read one of your books.
DC: Thank you. Which one did read and did you enjoy it?
ER: Hawk's Rayne. I found it most enjoyable and I find it facinating that you write about immortals and magical beings. . I also enjoy playing chess, checkers, and Brandubh.
DC: Brandubh?
ER: A completely fascinating and pleasurable game. It’s also been called Celtic Royal Chess. Coincidentally Brandubh translates into Black Ravens. It’s a board and there are lords and a king. There are also a larger group of pieces called robbers and they attack the royals and try to overtake them.
DC: So it’s very similar to what we know as chess.
ER: Quite.
DC: What do you think of Vance.
ER: I think he is quite suitable for Storm. Evenly matched in temperament, he is a highly intelligent specimen.
DC: Storm has Celtic heritage and she is well versed in the traditions and language. You too seem very knowledgeable in that vein. Were you involved in her training?
ER: I was there as a tutor, a guide. But she hasn’t needed me in centuries so I’ve spent the better part of the last century building my own family.
DC: So there are little Edgar’s running around?
ER: yes, actually. I have many children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren.
DC: Are you not worried about Storm falling in love with Vance? About her loosing her heart to this man. It would make leaving that much more painful for her.
ER: Things happen for a reason. Well I’m going to have to be getting back to Storm. She’s got a mortal job and I’m dying to see how her first day went.
DC: Mortal job?
ER: She’s working as, of all things, a gas station attendant! I can’t imagine working in a dirty little shop smelling gas fumes all day long. Well I must be off. Take care Donica.
DC: Thank you so much for your time. I look forward to discovering the secrets hidden the books.
ER: And you shall learn, my dear, in time.
I’d like to thank Edgar again for his time and I hope you all are as anxious as I am to learn the hidden secrets.
I’ve got Ember to get back to writing. The story is slowly opening up to me. I wish it wasn’t so painful to wring out each and every line but I know once it’s done it will be worth it. The count down to Storm is now 27 days
Until next time!
Huggles,
Donica
