More from Storm Chasing!

This year is flying by so fast. Can you believe it’s already almost September? Why is that the older you get the faster the days pass by? While I’m excited because of the rapidly approaching release dates, it also saddens me to have the year pass by.

My children seem to have grown right before my eyes. As most of my readers know, my son moved out almost a year ago. It’s hard to accept that he’s grown and is trying to make a life on his own. It seems like just yesterday he was my little boy, running around the house and being underfoot. Now I see emptiness he left behind and I miss his being underfoot terribly.

Today is his orientation at his first job. I’ve got a case of nerves for him. I know he’s going to be fine, I know that he’s going to be able to handle it. I’m just a natural worrywart. As one of my dearest friend’s would say, I’m not happy unless I’m worrying about something.

My daughter began high school and the way the years are speeding away I’m afraid to blink for fear of her following her own course out the door and on her way to a new life. Already she and her best friend have plans for after high school. They are planning on moving to Pennsylvania as roommates. Going to college and getting their own lives.

Now not that I think there is anything wrong with Pennsylvania, I’m praying she changes her mind. PA is too far away! I know that plans change from the time between 15 and 18 so I’m not too concerned over it at this point. We’ve recently had a different teenage drama to deal with. Her best friend’s parents are moving the family to a place about 15 minutes south of us and once this reality hits I know the girls are going to be completely devastated. Already my DD gets all teary over it.

My Magic Mavens group is getting ready to send out our September newsletter and we’ve got a great contest for our subscribers. I know, I mentioned it before, but I want to make sure every one of my readers get a chance to sign up and be ready for the contest! So please make sure you’ve gone over to the groups site at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MagicMavens/ and join the group today!

I need to get back to writing. I’ve got several more books in various stages that need to be completed.

So I’m going to leave you with an excerpt from Storm Chasing. In this scene Storm and Edgar have been involved in a conversation and it is interrupted by a call from Vance.

A shrill ring interrupted whatever Edgar had been about to say. “Hello?”

“Storm there please?”

She covered the mouthpiece and looked at Edgar. “Its him!” she mouthed. “This is Storm.”

“Hi, this is Vance Nodin, we met at the grocery store. Listen I know this is crazy. I don’t usually pick up phone numbers when I pick up my groceries. And I been out on the road this afternoon, but I was wondering…I mean you said to call you sometime and I thought…”

“Vance?”

“Yeah?”

“Breathe. I’m glad you called. I wouldn’t have given you my number if I hadn’t wanted you to. I’d love to get together with you. That is what you wanted, right?”

“Definitely…I mean, yes that’s why I called.” She heard his slight groan through the phone lines. “This isn’t going very well.”

She couldn’t help but grin at the way he stumbled over himself. Mortals really were such simple creatures. “Shall we start over?”

“Please. Hello, is Storm there?”

“This is she."

“Hi, this is Vance Nodin, and I was wondering if you’d like to get together and have a late dinner? Maybe a drink or something?”

“That sounds wonderful. When would you like to get together?”

“Is tonight all right?”

“Perfect. Where would you like to meet?”

“How about Rowdy’s Roadhouse? It’s just outside of town. Despite the name they do serve food.”

“What time?”

“Well it’s almost quarter of now. How about we say nine o’clock?”

“All right, I’ll see you there. Bye Vance.” She clicked off the phone and shot Edgar a triumphant look. “If things keep up at this pace, I’ll have that contest won in a few days!”

“And it will look like you cheated too.”

She frowned. “I hadn’t thought of that. Still they know how silly mortals are. You show them a little of one thing and they just have to have it. They can’t help it, its just they way they are.” She went to the mirror. “Well I can’t go meet him like this.” She passed her hand over her face and slid downward. In seconds her hair was nicely combed out and gone were the old shorts, replaced by a nice pair of jeans, that looked painted on. She knew they accented her curves. Her top was sheer and underneath a flesh tone tank fooled the eye into believing she was bare. Oh yes she looked hot! She turned to Edgar. “So?”

Edgar nodded, “Very nice.” He nodded his feathered head. “Yes that man will be spellbound without a bricht.”

“Don’t wait up Edgar dear.” She blew him a kiss as she zapped from the apartment to the car. “Rowdy’s Roadhouse.” In seconds the car was in a spot in the lot and she scanned the other vehicles to see if he was there.

Driving around the lot, she watched for his truck. Maybe he had another vehicle for fun? She continued to crawl around the lot. She slid the vette into a parking spot and sat back in the seat. Maybe she should just go on inside and wait for him there.

She climbed out. Walking around to the front end she ran into a man. He smelled like a brewery. “Excuse me,” she said as she moved away from him.

His hand snaked out and grabbed her arm. “Where ya goin’ darlin? Lesch me n you have some fun?”

“Ok!” She answered brightly. She pointed her finger at him, turned her hand over and crooked it at him. “Follow me boy.”

“Wahoo!” The drunk staggered towards her. His arms opened and he reached to grab her close.

“Hair of fire, breath like fog, turn this drunk into a dog.” A mere second flashed and a staggering moth eaten hound dog replaced the drunk. “Good, fitting I’d say. Now you wait here and sober up. I’ll be back later.”

“Who are you talking to?”

Vance’s voice startled her and she felt a moment of panic. Had he been standing there long?

Hope you enjoyed it! I’ll see you all soon!
Huggles,
Donica
