Reality contest shows aren’t things I normally watch. I know that many people are glued to the television when American Idol comes on. I couldn’t sit through 5 minutes of that show. I think Simon should be taken out somewhere and shot. I despise his arrogant and rude nature.
But I digress. I started watching “The Next Nashville Star”, why, I’m not sure. And I have to say there is some pretty good talent. But I was majorly disappointed in the voting process this past week. Monique LaCompte had the best voice I’ve heard in a long time, and instead of voting off the one who looks more like she belongs on the cover of a porno flick than a country album (and I don’t need to specify a name, just flip on the show or check out the website and it will be blatantly obvious which one the bimbo is.) They voted off Monique. Why? Is it because despite her beautiful face and awesome pipes she’s a heavy girl? I can’t help but wonder in todays “be anorexic” society if it doesn’t have a lot to do with that.
It’s taken a lot to impress me, these days what passes for country well it just isn’t. Don’t get me wrong, I love Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Aaron Tippin, Reba, Travis Tritt, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill but I’m a true country person. I’m talking Hank Williams Sr. Hank Snow, Miss Loretta Lynn, and Conway Twitty.
And that Big and Rich, don’t even get me started. Sorry folks that ISN’T country that’s a duo who belong more on the pop rock line than country.
So listening to this new wave of wanna be’s wasn’t exactly what I had planned, but I gave it a shot. (I was curious to see if Wynona and I had more in common than our hair color and full figures…) It was a nice surprise to hear these great voices and see if I could still pick winners. (Maybe that’s what happened with poor Monique, I wanted her to win….)
Anyway, last night I had a pleasant surprise from a couple of the guys. Chris Young belted out Keith Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes” and I’m telling you if I was about fifteen years younger I’d be willing to stay up all night for this man.
Matt Mason let go with his rendition of “The Ride’ and I was majorly impressed. He’s got a great voice as well. But (and I hope I don’t jinx him) I am rooting for Chris Young.
So anyway, this is procrastination at it’s finest. I should be working. It’s not like I don’t have plenty to do I just need to find renewed love for the series. Or work on something new…there is so much I should be doing. Like polishing Maryna off for one thing. After all an HEA is a little hard when one of the characters is dead…Maybe I’ll take the day off just because.
Huggles and Happy Reading!
