The calm after the storm

This weekend was one of tragedy and loss for many people all across Missouri and Illinois. Friday we enjoyed a lovely day of high 60’s by Saturday the sun was shining high in a clear blue sky and we hit 81 degrees.

Saturday evening the sky became ominous and by nightfall fierce storms were cutting their way from the southwestern part of the state to the northeast leaving destruction in their path and dropping tornadoes on sleeping residents.

Unfortunately two people lost their lives, dozens more injured and hundreds without homes. My sympathy and prayers go out to each of them. It’s going to take a long time for people to rebuild their lives.

In Jefferson County Missouri if people were awake and watching television they were alerted to the severity of the situation and able to take shelter, other wise they were left in a dangerous position. There are no tornado warning systems countywide. The county officials in their infinite wisdom have deemed it too costly to put out these life saving sirens. I heard the cost was somewhere in the 2 million dollar range.

There should be no question about putting in these devices. If there are no residents, there is no one to pay the politicians who sit on their coattails and do nothing. Aren’t people’s lives are more important than money? You’d think so wouldn’t you?

Anyway, stepping off my soapbox, I’m just very frustrated at the stupidity of people who are in control and I think it’s time residents woke up and got in officials with brains.

I’ve not been online to do my daily blog because of these storms, but now I’m back! And from the forecast it looks like clear skies for a while.

I’ve done very little writing in the last few days. Thursday was a dental appointment, Friday my mom and I did our weekly routine then headed out to the annual ladies retreat sponsored by our church. Friday night there were minor storms that came through where we were staying, we had our Saturday morning meeting and then came home Saturday afternoon.

I’m back in the throne (yes I said throne) and start my workweek. Shall I explain the throne comment? Last spring I happened to acquire a couple of new chairs. They were considered found treasures (i.e. someone had been looking to clean out their furniture before a major move) and I took a recliner, a gliding rocker and a rather odd looking high back chair.

A description of the high back chair doesn't do it justice but I'll try. It’s got green velvet cushion on the back and seat. The wood was painted white and it has high arms. The high back has two spindles carved into the wood. It just looks like an old throne. I decided I’d prefer it for my office chair rather than have it in the living room where it would get a lot of traffic, specifically dog traffic.

So for hours each day I can be found sitting on my throne, regally commanding my little slice of cyber heaven while the muse dances about inspiring me to move forward in my writing endeavors.

All hail the queen…:D

Happy reading, and HUGGLES till tomorrow!
