Beeching Ahead

Just need to get this off my chest:

The fashion industry has always annoyed and puzzle me. The girls are growing more and more at risk for anorexia and parents and others are all wringing their hands. But there is one undisputable fact: THE FASHION INDUSTRY is responsible for the image problems women and most definitely young girls are dealing with.

Let’s face facts, its always been so. You’re never thin enough to be (insert 1) Pretty, Popular, Happy, and the list goes on. I’ve had beefs with the so-called fashion world for a long time now. I mean the days of finding pretty clothes for your daughter from ten years old and up are pretty much gone. Everything now looks like it came from Sluts R Us. Most of the girls at my daughter’s middle school look like they are in rehearsal for years doing tricks. The saddest thing of all is they’re parent’s are BUYING them this crap.

I know I regaled you all recently at the news segment I saw, but let me recap: There is this absolutely stunning young woman from the St. Louis area. She’s in high school and her face has graced numerous magazine covers. She’s adorable! But the person who “discovered” her told her she’d not be able to model regular clothes but labeled her a plus size model because the poor thing was wearing a size ten. UMM HELLO!!!! WTF is that?

At size ten you are perfectly proportionate; there is no way on this planet that should be considered plus size. No folks I’m going to shock ya, I’m a large woman. Oh yeah, I’m what some call pleasantly plump, others call over weight and some call Big and Beautiful. I select the title depending on the way I feel in the morning. But I digress, when I go shopping at a plus size woman’s shop I want to see a real woman in the pictures modeling those items. I have curves just like they do, only mine are much more defined. You can’t sell oranges by displaying melons ya know.

This young woman has a great attitude, she knows she has a great fit body and she doesn’t let the “stigma” of being a plus size model faze her. But to her attitude are many dozens of girls who refuse to eat, make themselves ill, and have depressions because they aren’t perfect.

I know it’s always been like this, well ok not ALWAYS, but for most of our life times. Unfortunately the whole body issue is growing more and more problematic. Today’s world people are generally heavier, but instead of keeping up with us, the industry screams, “fatty! Fatty! Fatty!”

Wake up you so called designers, do something original. Lets get rid of the whole sleaze line and get over the size 2 skin and bone crap and show real girls that they can be beautiful no matter body shape.

And I’ll even do my part to help; I’ll have your Krispy Kreme.

Huggles,
Donica
