We had a very pleasant one. We enjoyed our annual Christmas Eve celebration at my aunt’s home. This year the bright lights of the tree were a little dimmer. Tonya’s absence was felt by all but we did have a good time anyway. It was nice to bask in the warmth of family love.
Christmas day we headed to my parents’ home. We shared a meal of glazed ham, corn casserole, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole (huh…we had thing for casserole this year, didn’t we? LOL) Hawaiian sweet bread rolls, and cranberry salad.
For dessert, we enjoyed my homemade cheesecake (I made in honor of my SIL’s birthday) red velvet cake (for my son and DIL’s anniversary) and I made baklava for the first time (it wasn’t perfect but it was passable).
I raked in the gifts this year too! I received a story written by my oldest nephew—he may turn out to be an author like his aunt Donica! Homemade cookies my nephews helped make, a gc to Cracker Barrel restaurant from my brother, SIL and nephews. Mom and dad gave me some pretty purple eye shadow, a crème brulee set, a Mary Kay compact and a very pretty necklace. My son and DIL gave me a beautiful picture of my little Alyx in a silver frame and every single album that Rhapsody (of Fire) recorded—including their demo! WOOHOOO!!! My best friend gave me two sweet little purple hand towels with ghosts appliquéd on them, a candle, and an Americana wooden wall hanging and orchid scented hand lotion.. My other closest friend gave me a set of tea light candles and a little puppy dog figurine that when you take off it’s head it’s a tiny little box. My other SIL (DH’s sis) gave me two Indian baby porcelain dolls. (They have joined my collection!) and a fleece horse printed blanket. My daughter gave me the prettiest necklace, pendent and earrings set you’ve ever seen! It’s a copper colored enamel horse with rhinestones, some hand sanitizer in cotton scent and some Black Amethyst hand lotion.. DH gave me this years M&M dispenser, in Madame Green. (Man, I hope I didn’t forget anything! My memory is failing me these days. Lack of sleep I’m sure.)
Well, I have to head off for now. I need to get busy before I take off for the New Year holiday celebrations.
Have safe and happy New Year!
