T13 Television

100

Thirteen Television Shows I loved and the way they (may) have influenced my life

1) Little House on the Prairie: It peaked my interest in historical writing, made me see that no matter the obstacles it is possible to over come them.

2) Emergency: Made me want to be a Paramedic. Watching Randolph Mantooth jump out of Squat 51 and run around saving people brought out the desire to be a hero in me. I never did make it to paramedic level but I did spend almost twelve years on a fire department working as an EMT, an EMT Lt., a tester for the National Registry Exam, and a CPR instructor. Close enough!

3) Munsters: I could laugh at life and be comfortable in my own skin, let the others in this world take issue with me, but I can be happy in who I am.

4) The Addams family: Morticia, Gomez, the happy bizarre family who could again laugh at life. I love the sense of humor; they made me the twisted individual I am today. AND THAT DÉCOR! Man! Talk about house beautiful…

5) Bewitched: I loved Sam and it got me into the whole wish I was a witch thing. The only issue I had was Darrin’s constant need to stifle who she really was. The comedic elements were strong, the special effects great and it was nice to see a witch who wasn’t an old crone. This show was part of the inspiration behind my Elemental Desires series!

6) My Friend Flicka: I so missed my horses and when I couldn’t be with them I could watch the animal I loved most in the world with the one person who loved her most in the world.

7) Charmed: More of the interest in Paranormal. The whole good witch aspect of the paranormal world. Some of the elements also played a minor role in my Elemental Desires Series but only in passing.

8) CSI: (all of them): While the shows may not be 100% accurate they do help me in working out details of investigations for my Suspense novels. Plus its really cool to watch as the mystery unfolds

9) Numbers: Rob Morrow. Enough said…

10) NCIS: Mark Harmon. Again enough said…

11) Forensic Files: The same reason as the CSI’s. I love watching how they go from the evidence to the criminal and follow along in the steps that bring justice to the victims.

12) Bonanaza: More of the whole historical interest stuff. I know it wasn’t accurate, I know there was a hodgepodge of information thrown together but it still was enough to bring out my love of cowboys and horses and such. My grandparents have a beef ranch and spent all my summers there so it was nice to have springboards for the stories I could act out while riding my horse across the pastures. That and Michael Landon was such a cute Little joe!

13) Shark: James Woods. Watching a former slinme bag destroy current slinmebags in the courtroom trips my trigger. That I find James Woods completely fascinating anyway.

What you watch on television does have an effect on a person. How true it can be. While not every show influenced who I am, it did help shape part of me. Hope you enjoyed my T13! Make sure to check out other T13ers.

Huggles til next time!

I had a HUGE crush on Randolph Mantooth when I was a kidlet. And I wanted to be Dixie when I grew up!
Thanks for the memories with those old shows! We must be 'of the same generation' (ahem) to have watched The Addams Family, Munsters, etc...

And thanks for stopping by my blog!

Great food for thought.

What you watch does have an impact on your character, but I think some of the negative impacts (for violent shows) can be mitigated through open dialogue between parents and children.

I'm not big on TV, but I do watch 2 of the 3 CSI. (not Miama-he just gives me the heebie jeebies!)

And I watched the Addams Family when I was a kid.

I loved Little House as a kid. I found myself drawn more to sci-fi shows growing up though. The CSI shows are awesome, and I love Stargate: SG1 and Atlantis.

Oh man I loved the Munsters and Addams Family.

I didn't like the show Little House on the Prairie. I read the books and fell in love with Laura and her family so I couldn't face all the inaccuracies of the show. I've tried ... just can't.

Great list, happy TT and thanks for dropping by mine

I loved the Munsters and Adamms Family too. I watch CSI, last night was such a funny episode with all the campy jokes and such. I love it when they are lighthearted...and we saw a little more into the relationship between Grissom and Sarah wow!

i am addicted to LOST...which has amazing characters and background...and suspense, plus Jack and Sawyer are HOT!

I watch Grey's Anatomy, Shark, Nip/Tuck, and a lot of the reality shows, like American Next Top Model, Survivor, Top Chef, Project Runway...

Fun list!
