And romance is in the air. Of course for me, romance is always around in my books.
With the new month comes the new Did You Knows. In the Elemental Desires Series each witch has her own element, but she also has her own ancestry. They are sisters, but each has a different mother who was from a different culture. In “Storm Chasing” Storm is of Celtic ancestry. While Aradia, their world is steeped in Celtic traditions; Storm’s mom was Irish descent so her story was rich with Celtic traditions.
Ember’s story is going to be just as rich in her background, full of Hawaiian traditions and history as well as the language. It’s my goal in these books to celebrate the traditions and beliefs of the different cultures I use in the series. I hope that it will introduce my readers to new worlds. The research of the legends and myths of the diverse cultures has proven to be a truly joyous learning experience.
Ember’s mortal, Egan Brandt, is a Volcanologist and the story takes place on the Big Island of Hawai’i. He studies the volcano and its activity, how the lava moves and its rate of flow. There are so many things I never knew about the study of volcanoes and this too was fascinating to me.
This months Did You Know will be tidbits of information on legends of Hawaii and what volcanology is and the tools used in their work. Most all the volcano and volcanologists information was taken from the website, Volcano World and you can pop over there and find additional information for yourself.
Most of the legend and myth information about the Hawaiian gods and goddesses was found at MythHome: Hawaiian Gods and Hawaiian Legends - Gods, Goddesses and Demigods The language helps and translations came from The Hawaiian Language Web Site - Awarded 'Best of the Net' - http://hawaiianlanguage.com -- E Komo Mai! Welcome!
Tomorrow I’ve got a dentist appointment and the weekend will be filled with pain medications, antibiotics and a birthday party celebrating my daughter’s 14th birthday so I probably won’t be making any postings or Did You Knows until Monday. So I hope you’ll be stopping back by!
Huggles,
Donica
